Peter, Thank you, thank you! You may remember that during the development of the thread A Swallow Anew I expressed the view that Mavis could not be the prototype of Amazon. This heresy was met with a deafening silence and I assumed that I was in a minority of one. Your post has cheered me up enormously. I'm glad you're back on Tarboard.
The hypothesis that the boats bought for for the Altouyan children Swallow and Mavis were the models for AR's fictional Swallow and Amazon seems to originate from Brogan. I guess he did not look carefully at the boats, but just put two and two together... .
PS. The Altounyan children's Swallow as the model for her fictional namesake I might just buy (although I know that John N has serious reservations) Mavis as Amazon never!
