John - in the UK, 'bone china' is not a 'soft paste porcelain'. The ingredients, and the proportions, and the firing temperatures, are different. 'Soft paste porcelain' is what the 18th century manufacturers cobbled up - all kinds of things were added to the mix - sometimes bone ash, sometimes 'soapstone', sometimes powdered glass. The results were inconsistent. As the constituents of 18th century porcelain bodies are miles off-topic for Tarboard, I won't continue. John - please accept what I say. I have been involved with ceramics all my life, and in recent years have worked at Wedgwood's.
