Peter, "If Not Duffers... " would be enriched by your involvement. I would welcome an "extended essay" from you stoutly putting forward your views that AR characters are his own creations which draw on his experience from various people and sources. If I've got that right, then I think that this may be an area where we are nearly in complete agreement. Of course, we can continue to debate the Hobbsian Crossley hypothesis. It's an issue which is of interest to many Tarboarders. But, I should make it clear that for me the Crossley girls, and the Altounyans, are 'placeholders'. That is frameworks into which AR poured details from many sources. The Crossley girls are not the Amazons any more than the Altounyans are the Swallows. Yet, I believe that both were the starting point from which he started his process of artistic creation.
BTW, I'm starting my own "extended essay", In Search of Sinbad's Creek which, at my present rate of progress, will be ready for Christmas.
