Absolutely Peter. The "PH" house, outbuildings and surviving boathouse would look fine on the Thames somewhere near Henley. I confess that I find that Hobbs's writing sometimes rushes away with him. I have a similar trait amd you have, quite rightly, pulled me up about this on more than one occassion.

I am willing to be persuaded that AR 'borrowed' these as an ingredient for his 'Beckfoot'.

We have a HHH (Honorary Hobbsian Hypothesis) membership card waiting for you. It was this bit of evidence from Iain which was a clincher for me.

Now it would be interesting to see some research regarding the actual houses or houses that gave AR the basis of the fictional 'Beckfoot' building.
