Because the Amazons are female, AR did not have to work out how natives would have addressed a middle-class boy. He took care not to have any of the locals address John or Roger. One assumes they would have said 'Master John'.

I think they would have been slow to do so, because of another factor. John was not local. My instincts tell me the locals didn't know him well enough to feel comfortable calling him 'Master John'. I think they would probably, where decently possible, have avoided using any construction that included his name. Maybe the Jacksons of Holly Howe would be an exception.
