Yes, this mantra of old fartdom has been around a long time, and I agree that we OFs must try and be positive about the present. I am prepared to believe (just) that the present state of the world and 'society' is no worse than it was 50 years ago, but wait . . . Shouldn't the world be getting better? I see precious little sign of it. I see very few children who remotely resemble the Swallows in manner. Whatever happened to the march of civilisation? So keep grumbling, Peter, there is work to do . . . Don't lose your nerve. In many societies in the world, old people are respected for their wisdom and/or experience.
