There seems to be an overriding desire on TarBoard to show that the Blacketts/Turners were rich toffs served by downtrodden serfs. I have never read anything so ridiculous.

On the 188th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre, which took place 110 years before the setting of SA, it's a good time to reflect that relations between master and servant were not always ideal, even in the 1920s and 30s.

The GA is one of these people who always seem to be looking for faults in others, but are completely blind to their own. After a few days of the GA treatment the cook want to hand in her notice (PM) and the housemaid dances in celebration of the GA's leaving (SD). The GA even manages to reduce Mrs Blackett to tears (SD).

"Toffish" behaviour is a very mild description of the Turners at their worst. James Turner has one toffish moment - when he rejects John's attempt to deliver the warning from the two Billies in SA, but Maria Turner (the GA) seems to be toffish continually.
