I've read American Indians in the Pacific
which is more than I have done. However, I see that Wikipedia agrees with you, and quotes from anthropologist Robert C. Suggs on "The Kon-Tiki Myth":
The Kon-Tiki theory is about as plausible as the tales of Atlantis, Mu, and "Children of the Sun". Like most such theories it makes exciting light reading, but as an example of scientific method it fares quite poorly.
Oh dear, life is a series of sad disillusionments. Was anyone ever right about anything?
