Well, young folks have historically been going to the hot place in the proverbial hand cart for generations and still seem to come out OK - we and the Swallows and Amazons did. Yes, the vast majority of kids are good and considerate - it is just the ones "you don't know" who aren't (until you get to know them)!. Maybe they just wish we could enjoy life as they do, following their precedents! Rap music can't be all that bad ------ (???) It is just alian to most of our ways of thinking - just like Jazz and Rock and Roll was to our parents and grandparents.

Now if they could only do as Mr. Monkhouse suggested in his last sentence, the world would instantly straighten up and fly right! (I do heartily agree there!) When I was a kid, I organized myself - had to, as no-one else would, thank goodness! There was/is a reason Aged Parents were/are called that!

And I think this is totally on topic, as we have examples in Mr. Ransome's stories of people that are definitely anti-social, George Owdon, the theives in Swallows and Amazons, the Hullabaloos and the list goes on ------ As people (and aside from the stories needing protaganists) just how did these folks get to be what they were; we can delve into these reasons, analyse them and still not really come up with a true solution as we only have a tiny segment of their personalities revealed in the books. It is much easier to analyse Mrs. Tyson's suspicions than it is to figure out what went wrong with George Owdon. One can easier understand Black Jake and his cohorts in Peter Duck as they are such classic baddies (and very fictional as opposed to the main characters who are supposed to be "real").
