Sorry Peter, it comes down to more than dislike - musicals are not ‘natural’, nobody bursts into song to tell someone else their mother has just died. Take Oliver, the musical of Oliver Twist; I'm sure Dickens would be appalled that his attempt to show the poverty, crime and treatment of orphans in the London of his day was turned into a sing-along of stereotypical cockneys and toffs. Surely, none of us what the same treatment inflicted on the works of AR? And before anybody tries this approach I am not against singing - to celebrate, to worship, to express joy or sorrow; but never to portray everyday life.
