SW is one of my top 3. Partly I like the twists and turns of the muddy channels (a bit like ski-ing in the Peak District on thawing snow) but mostly I like the replicability of it. As others have said, the Mastodon and his dilemma are splendid as are the differences between John and Nancy. Mind you, after sailing Goblin across the North Sea you might have thought that John would feel a bit more secure about his father's approval. I also like the emergence of Bridget as a character. The Eels, however, are disappointing, despite the rather splendid tea-party scene; Daisy appears as a lesser version of Nancy and her brothers are ciphers.
CC and B6 both lack replicability, at least in terms of their rather implausible plots. I lived on a houseboat at Wroxham for several years and love the Broadland scenes but despite this the 2 Broads books are low in my re-reading charts.
PS posts about our personal AR adventurers are frowned upon by the Magisterium?? The only recent frowning at posts I've noticed is at threads devoted to what we had for breakfast (toast by the way). I for one, agree with the Magisterium, if such an august body exists, that such ramblings should be given a gentle steer in the direction of AR. Mind you I'm going to try that ox muzzle salad if I get a chance.
