The above could also be applied word for word to JKR's Potter series and there is evidence that Rowling knew the SA books when writing Potter.

Rebelliousness is a staple of children's fiction- probably because they like it and it sells. Think of Just William or, most of all, Stalky and Co who were the prototypes of modern 'cocking a snook at authority' books. I'd say that JKR was tremendously aware of these precursors, including AR, and drew on them extensivly for her own books. I'm quite sure Pullman was aware of them too, but it seems to me that in both cases, Kipling was a much more direct influence than AR.
