When the S&As recover Wild Cat and release PD and Bill, these is an urge to get under way as soon as possible to reach Duckhaven and collect CF before Black Jake and crew shoot him.
However perhaps half an hour spent disabling Viper so that she could not chase might well avoid the need for the providential waterspout to wipe out the Viper.
How would one do this? Possibilities include taking the boats for a start.
Perhaps setting a fire round the foremast with galley kindling and paraffin for the oil lamps.
Removal of all the belaying pins.
Towing the Viper out and letting her drift on to the rocks.
I am sure TarBoarders with and inventive turn of mine and perhaps more experience of old vessels could come up with better solutions to be achieved in half an hour and with few tools.
