The lesson here is to follow ones plans and dreams without telling the world until afterwards. The state interferes far too much. I don't doubt the state would be onto Mrs Blackett and Mrs Walker nowadays for knowing and trusting their children.

This girl was raised in a freerange world that few of us can comprehend anymore (though we dream it vicariously in our favorite set of books).

I say let her sail away. If she makes it, which I see as a great possibility, fantastic. If not, then at least she had the guts to follow a dream.

As Alex mentions, sailing the world does not have to be defying death.
