The word that at one time was rather commonplace in usage but is today considered objectionable - the "N" word - is used EIGHT times in Ransome's collection of twelve books.

In BS, it is used in reference to the NEGATIVE of the photo of the two pushing off the yacht.

In PD, it is used to refer to MOGANDY, a member of BLACK JAKE's crew, and it is used to refer to black pearls.
