It's still there! At least it was when I was there last August. There were in fact two trees planted (just in case) by TARS. You can't see them on the picture because they're still only babies!
I read somewhere that Roger Altounyan remembered a "lookout tree" on the island but that it was blown down in a 1930s storm.
