In response to Jonathon's query, if you consider Peel Island on Coniston Water to be Wildcat Island, then it belongs to the National Trust. And no, camping is not allowed, it's just that what is permitted and what takes place can diverge at times.
As for the tree wasn't that on one of the Windemere models? When Paul Green and myself did a tour of inspection at the IAGM this summer there weren't any obvious candidates on Blake Holme ( the 'other' Wildcat island) just opposite the Corroberree site but on Silver Holme (usually given as a model for Cormorant Island) there are the remains of an enormorous tree with root buttresses big enough to crawl through. (And I am nearer in girth to Captain Flint than Roger). It looks the very picture of the treasure tree but presumably it was thriving in AR's day. So it could be the original Look Out Tree.
