The islands are very low lying. In almost all cases the sea wall is the highest point on any of them, but I think the farm steading on Horsey (Swallow) Island is on a higher patch. The land generally lies below mean high water Spring tides, but above mean low water Neaps, so it can be drained by gravity, timing the sluice openings.

There is a Government proposal that the remaining sea walls be abandoned and the land allowed to revert to saltings.

Fortunately, Kirby Creek is oyster layings and Skippers (Mastodon) Island is a nature reserve.

However I have counted well over a hundred yachts anchored off Stone Point at a weekend
