As a fact I couldnīt read the first letter of the word bit properly in the image (itīs handwritten, not printed, you know) I thought it was a G insted of a B

I didnīt know the word git, but as the lovely English language is so rich of words, I was not that surprised.

Well, this little English lesson influenced me to look in the dictionary. And git means, as you said, something quite near galoot. So it wouldnīt have been impossible for Nancy to use git instead of galoot when, for example, Roger had done something clumsy, would it ?

By the way, according to my dictonary, galoot has an inclination for American English. Do you agree ?
