>In Peter Dowden's first internet newsletter series, before the Tarboard was invented, there was discussion of S&A translations. One of the items that came up was that AR was so annoyed that the French translator introduced items such as bedtime prayers into the early books, that he refused permission for any further translations.
Is there proof of this? The first newsletter in question is wildly inaccurate in that it clearly states that the French translations stopped after Swallowdale, the second newsletter states five, whereas in fact the first seven of the books up to and including Nous ne voulions pas aller en mer were published.
With regard to the insistence on bedtime prayers - I'm sure you recall that it was actually AR's niece Cecily Ledgard who thought that the translation in question was the Spanish version. She mentioned this at the Durham Literary Weekend.
