Interesting that I missed them - my editions are all late 1940s early 1950s except for WDMTGTS - now that it has been pointed out I remember about the pearls.

I agree that AR wasn't being offensive, but just reflecting the language of the day. Is it possible that modern editions have been censored in this way? The problem is we are talking childrens books here, whereas us adults can put the language into a historical context.

Here we go again, to much analysis and not enough reading for pleasure!
