The Roaring Donkey

This may be very old ground, but the only pub called "The Roaring Donkey" that I know of is the one at Holland-on-Sea, between Clacton and Frinton. Dare one assume that this pub, which looks to me to date from the 1950's, was named in honour of AR, and that the pub in BS was actually the Red, or White, Lion, with a badly painted inn-sign, leading to it being nicknamed The Roaring Donkey?
