I'm presently re-reading Coot Club and have an - Oh so trivial! - question. The dyke from the Thurne to Heigham Sounds is named Kendal by Arthur Ransome but as I recall when sailing through it in 1988 it is referred to as Candle Dyke. Virtually everything else (except The Roaring Donkey) was just as I expected, including a lovely sail through Meadow Dyke where indeed my children could have simultaneously jumped to either shore. Can anyone (Ed can have a rest on this one) explain Kendal vs Candle?
