The explanation for Kendal or Candle Dyke is deceptively simple. It was named Candle Dyke after the candle factory that used to stand about 1 mile to the east in the 1800s. It is further complicated by the fact that the factory was run by the Kendall family from nearby West Somerton. The factory was demolished around 1920. I hope this helps.
