I should emphasise that the Companion
is being produced by Amazon Publications, and has no direct connection with the TARS Trustees. I had no involvement whatever in the choice of it for publication; I merely reported that it is on the stocks. But I am reasonably certain that the idea stems largely from just these kind of discussions on the Tarboard.
For readers who don't know about Amazon Publications, it is a subscription-only publishing undertaking which prints one book a year of interest to TARS members. (This year's is a reprint of Bohemia in London, due out any day now.) It is run by a small committee of TARS entirely independently of all other society activities, and is financed by the subscriptions of those TARS members who subscribe to each year's book in advance. The books are not available for sale to non-members.
