Keen TARS members will remember that the matter of an 'Annotated Ransome' was addressed by Christina Hardyment in a paper called THE MASTER'S MENTAL FURNITURE - LITERARY INFLUENCES ON THE ARTHUR RANSOME NOVELS at the Fourth Literary Weekend at Rydal Hall, October 1997. (see the Transcripts Page 5O.

Subsequently, Christina discussed in MIXED MOSS Volume Three, Number Two Page 49 the same matter, saying, "The idea raised furious controversy at the Literary Weekend." Clearly, she was not in favor of an 'Annotated Ransome' unless it was, "... a well-hidden X-rated secret edition, scholars,. for the use of, locked away in university libraries...."

In the same MM article, Christina went on to say, "If enough of you get together over it, there could be a [sic] annotated editon of AR in no time. But, don't you date show it to the kids, Or me."

I'm looking forward to my copy of the 'Annotated Ransome' very much indeed! My congratulations to the author(s)1 I wonder who he/she/they are?

I do not understand why anyone would NOT want an 'Annoted Ransome' But, there you are.
