In my first of Coot Club there is a correction slip, after a mistake — Stalham instead of Salhouse — was not spotted, so in this case, the words are that much different. I believe there are other errors that were later corrected — see the AR Bibliography by Wayne Hammond.
I suppose, because a first edition is the earliest example of the particular work. My first editions are generally well-read. More important to me in my collection, are good/excellent/mint 1930s editions, some with gold lettering on the front cover, all of which are printed on excellent paper, that do justice to the illustrations, quite different from wartime and post-war editions, that make them a pleasure to handle and an added pleasure to read.
