I wonder why I feel differently about the apparent changes to the story in the upcoming Swallows and Amazons film to how I felt about the changes to The Hobbit? I am a huge fan of both books, and yet I have found myself stroppily explaining to Tolkien purists that films and books are different and that a film faithful to the original Hobbit book would not be a good live-action film... And yet I've been a total Ransome purist, worrying about all the apparent changes an awful lot. Is it just because I'm inconsistent or hypocritical? Secretly don't like The Hobbit as much as Swallows and Amazons (as a book) or is there a reason for this difference that reflects rather better on me? Anybody else have any thoughts on this.

(If it helps the analysis, I really liked the Lord of the Rings films but got a bit annoyed at significant plot changes; I like the Hobbit films less - though still enjoyed them - but didn't mind added Elves and added bits of plot at all, really).
