The first one was installed in 1929. In some place called Surrey?

But two things point to Beckfoot having a water supply laid onto the house.

1. The pump in the yard at Tysons which suggests that they may not have had running water and the complete lack of mention of a yard pump in Beckfoot.

2. The reference to a bathroom and getting water in PM, although in PP they went for a swim in the river in the morning, although I suspect that 8 kids would not easily get thru the bathroom nor would it be as much fun as camping in the garden.

Voyesey was designing houses in Windermere in 1904 or thereabouts and his homes had WC, so they needed running water. I have one his standard plans for about Beckfoot's size in 1904 with 2 wc's and bathroom.

There is no need for electricity for running water where you have a hill behind and a creek. The McGraw Hill Book on house and other construcution (1920) lists three methods to provide water supply to rural dwellings all feasible at Beckfoot and not that expensive.

The interesting point is which one did they use.

I now have the web page up and running with the Swallow plans and the Beckfoot plans that Ed and I have been working on. Comments welcome, particulry as you can draw on the DWF files with VOVO Viewer (Free) from AutoCAD.

Look for the plans and beckfoot tabs.

There are DWG, DWF and JPG files.

I have also charcoal sketched Beckfoot, Swallow, and Mike Field's boat the Alisa- Louise. They look nice.
(Well I think so). there are also measured drawings for Scarab.

Anyway it has been fun. Ed certainly knows Ransome.

Gotta go eat.
