Institutions which are (or in those days were) parts of London
University are scattered all over London. There's a major cluster of
them in the Bloomsbury district which is close to Euston. This cluster
includes, for example, University College and Birkbeck College.
Imperial College is further from Euston, on the SW edge of central London.

Anyone know if any particular bits of London U were known for archaeology?

Anyone going from any part of London, or almost anywhere in SE England,
to the Lake District, would first use more local means of transport to
get to Euston, then get a long-distance train there.
