My previous offering seems unduly critical, on re-reading it. Archer was a brilliant designer but no boat is ever quite perfect. Incidentally, when asked for a yacht, he designed and built a yacht - Erskine Childers' "Asgard" was ordered from Archer as a wedding present by his doting American in-laws. Jolly nice she is, too, espescially since she was rescued from jail and is going back to sea.

Anyway, "Sandefjord" came to no harm by going end over end; she and her crew survived. She did manage to sink very thoroughly, in extremely deep water, just a few of years ago, when her mast step failed, en route to a Tall Ships race, but being an important piece of Norwegian history, she was recovered, with the aid of a dive support ship and I saw her in Oslo two years ago looking as good as new!
