This is curious because I can't find it. First I had just recently reread WH and didn't see anything about "Deaf and Dumb" sign language. On looking for it now in my J. Cape 25th impression 1969 I don't see anything about it in the Chapter titled The Uses Of An Uncle. (My page 274 is the last page of that chapter. Earlier in the chapter after CF has returned from Beckfoot the kids asked...

"Did you talk to her?"
"from one end of the lawn to the other. Semaphore, mostly." (CF)
"We're not even allowed to do that," said Peggy.
"I shall have to rub up on my signalling," said CF. "She goes way too fast for me."

Was something removed between your printing and mine? Or am I just in the wrong spot?
