My own opinion is that it is best to read the books in the order in which they were written. The later ones have so many references to the earlier ones.

Possible exceptions - read PD before SD, because of all the references to it in SD.

If you haven't read any (which Joe obviously has) an option could be to start with WH, which does introduce all the main characters tidily.
SA is in so many ways different to its successors, and from comments on TarBoard could be offputting to a newcomer.

Perhaps we are lucky that AR, unlike for example Monica Edwards, wrote the action in each book to occur later than the ones he had already written.
