I don't know why anyone would think CF's cabin trunk was originally his father's. When I went on my two-year junket by ship around the world I carried a trunk. Even after only two years, the thing was plastered with labels from various steamship companies. CP was travelling a lot longer than I did, so he must have had many more labels. Anyway, there's nothing in the stories to say it was his father's trunk.
