First, I have to say that to ask me about linking to images on the net is akin to asking Dorothea about the finer points of sailing - you would be better off asking Nancy or John, or in this case Jock. However, I'll give a dufferish explanation, on the basis that I try to keep these things simple, and if it works I stick to it.

The 'helmet' image is taken from a website which advertises military gear (BTW it is described as a 'Vietnam Badged Green Pith Helmet'). Now the cleverer operators can no doubt link directly to the image on that website, but I played safe and downloaded the helmet image onto my hard disk. Having checked the image was OK, I then uploaded it onto an image host site, on which I have a page. This site was kindly recommended to me by Ian, and I can endorse that recommendation - it is www. flickr.com. It is easy to link to images on flickr - you have a choice either to reproduce the image in a website posting by pasting in the HTML (which I did with the helmet), or to provide a URL link to it, like this:

Pith Helmet

I apologise if I have posted up some more 'speculative entanglements'!
