Just as a caution for some - cups and ounces aren't the same in the US as in the UK/Canada. Since Robert's e-mail is in the UK, I'd guess his recipe uses Imperial measures. An Imperial ounce is about .96 US ounces, but IIRC an Imperial cup is 10 oz. (9.6 oz. US).
I'm assuming that Robert's mum got her recipe from a British magazine called "Good Housekeeping", but there is a US magazine of that name, which could reverse things if that was the source.
