Isn't it true to say, and has it not always been true to say, that most grown up people will always think the worst of young people?

In SA Captain Flint thinks the worst of the Swallows, in BS everybody (except the fisherman) thinks the worst of the Death and Glories, in PP Mrs Tyson thinks the worst of them all, in GN the Gaels think the worst of them all.

I don't actually think that decent young people are confined to Kansas. Most young people I know are actually quite pleasant to be with. Yet even I will confess to sometimes being worried when I see young people coming who I don't know. Perhaps it is me, not them, that is at fault for this.
