First, I have posted some photos of Swallowdale 3 (SD3) into the Yahoo group site, accessible by the 'Upload area for photos' button at the top. Hope you enjoy looking at them.

I have also posted some Clifford Webb drawings which are even more like SD3 (or is it vice versa) than AR's. I strongly suspect that this is where AR brought him to do his SD drawings. The cave is much smaller inside in CW's, and SD3's cave looks very similar in size. AR's drawing of the cave makes it look about 10' (3 metres) headroom with a larger entrance than the Discovery frontispiece portrays. I've posted our attempt to recreate this drawing.

I've also posted CW's drawing of the S&As hauling Captain Flint's baggage up the very steep waterfall (he didn't carry it up). I know the actual SD3 waterfall is very steep, but even this looks closer to the CW drawing than anything at SD1. AR of course draws CF getting loaded up at Horseshoe Cove rather than draw the baggage hauling. [BTW, CW's frontispiece is very interesting! - it's not Discovery]

I think you could camp in this bit of Tilberthwaite Gill quite nicely - and plenty of running water! Conversely, it is very difficult to camp in SD1 because of the bracken and its small size generally. Anyone up for an overnight? (in summer!) Maybe try them both out!

I like the distinction between CART and SART! I suspect SD2 is in the ARNWT section however.

Rob
