Thanks for the link Jock. It is interesting, as the house for sale was owned by the owners of the whole area - including the quay and the thatched cottage. It's actually been for sale for a few months now. The access issue has caused problems in the past, certainly the footpath around the Backwaters goes past the Quay House and across the quay but as usual over the years this has been widely abused with people trying to access the thatched cottage. A lot of locals are under the impression that the section of road that gives access to the area after the main section of Quay Lane is just part of the lane so is a public right of way - it's not! The actual footpath runs from the main road across the farm land between Quay Lane and Malting Lane to the west and takes the route across the quay and on around the Backwaters. When Quay House was raised up some years back the owners (I don't know if they are still the same people) upset most of the residents of the Lane with the comings and goings of lorries etc blocking the public part of the lane, this is one reason they guard their privacy and limited access to the area.
(How do I know this – I used to live in the Lane!)
