I thought that this topic deserves a new thread all to itself, and maybe a more neutral title,
since the words Beckfoot plumbing have negative connotations in the minds of some.

I'd like to reply to John Giddy's post:

Maybe the lavatory is out of shot ?
Is that really a 1930s bathroom ? Looks more like 1940s to me...
(ducks and runs for cover)
There's no doubt that the new TarBoard cover art is a bang up to date 1930s bathroom.
See the Museum of Domestic Design & Architecture 1930s Bathrooms for some wonderful
drawings.

But would Beckfoot have had a bang up to date bathroom? Perhaps not. There is a pleasant
restraint about the Beckfoot household. I've commented before on the contrast between the
Beckfoot fleet: launch, houseboat, sailing dinghy and rowing boat and frugality (is that the
right word?) whereby the GA gets the Amazons to mow the Beckfoot lawn and she herself
'tidies up' Captain Flint's houseboat. I'd like to think that when the series starts at least
Beckfoot has an Edwardian bathroom.

On the other hand Mrs Blackett does have the 'builders in' during SD, perhaps the GA has
ordered and sponsored some renovations which include the bathroom?

I'd like to help Peter H who appears not to understand the difficulty that some of us are
having with the words that make up the title of this thread.

But . . alright then:-

Water . . . in . . . the . . . bathroom

Which of those words does Ed not understand?

If Nancy is telling Dorothea that she can find cold water in the bathroom for the vase that
is to be put in the GA's room. She is stating the obvious. If Nancy is telling Dorothea to put
a bowl of water in the bathroom ready for the GA's to refresh herself after her journey down
from Harrogate, that could be ambiguous - hot or cold water? But a 1930's bathroom without
cold water is unlikely... .
