Eric, I'll let Jock answer in detail (if he wishes,) but basically the first thing is that you need to have your picture on a website somewhere. This could be your own website, someone else's, or a "free" hosting service. The problem with the free services is that they tend to disappear, taking your precious photos with them. (This has happened at least twice in my picture-posting experience, with PhotoPoint and ImageStation, which is why I now use my own site.)

Having put your picture on a website somewhere, or alternatively found someone else's picture that you'd like to use, you can then "post" it to TarBoard in one of two ways. Either you put the full URL (which is to say, the picture's web address) in the Optional Image URL box that appears under the panel where you post your message; or you type some cryptic stuff into the body of the text you're posting. The latter option puts the image in the middle of the text where you might want it to be; the former but easier method puts the picture at the start (end? -- I've forgotten) of your post.

The cryptic stuff you type in the body of the text takes the form --

< img src="http://www.woodenboatfittings.com.au/public/sisterhooks.jpg" >

where what appears between the inverted commas is the URL of the picture. (But you don't put a space after the first < or before the last > as I have had to do here to avoid actually posting a picture.)

What appears between the inverted commas (but not those punctutation marks themselves) is what you could also put into the Optional Image URL if you were using that method.

If you wanted to use someone else's picture that's already on the web, to find its URL you right-click on the picture itself, scroll down till you get to Properties, open that up, and copy the URL which appears in the Properties box.

If you're linking to a picture rather than actually posting the picture itself, then you copy the URL into the Optional Link URL panel instead of the Optional Image URL panel; but in this case you must also put a title for the link in the Link Title panel or the link won't work.

I'm afraid all this sounds a good deal more difficult than it actually is. Try it out and you'll find it's really not all that hard. (And of course, always use the Bother button to test post before you launch....)

Good luck. Mike.
