This may not be very helpful but I'd always assumed that Dick's rushes were the same as those that indicate wet areas in Scotland. They have a round, tapering central stem with narrow leaves around it. There's a brown floret on one side a few inches from the point and the stem has a pithy core. Unfortunately, I have no idea what they are called.
