I seem to remember that, at one point, the GA sets out to call on, and admonish, a clergyman, new to the district, who has been making innovations, but I cannot recall if this is in SD or P&M, and I cannot lay my hand on the place.
Avoiding the subject avoids the issue of "Which church?", whilst including it would not have helped or hindered the plot and might have offended readers.
