Well, two (as generally accepted) years later, Nancy's wrist watch was their sole timepiece in Secret Water. So they evidently weren't prohibitive. IIRC, in either SA or SD, John hung his up in the tent (I'm thinking tent pole, which would make it SD), and I had an impression it was a wrist watch there but that may have been an extrapolation beyond the available data.
