I'll go further! I think there is evidence it wasnt his fathers!
On its loss CF mainly mourns the loss of its contents particularly the draft of Mixed Moss that he know feels he has wasted the summer on.
If it had been his fathers trunk I think there would have been some sentimental attachment to the box itself. I dont recall any of this being reported.

Well that my view although, I also feel this entrail gazing can get a bit overdone- did the Amazons like sailing because their great great great etc came over by boat with the Vikings?
