An Aga is a huge wood or coal burning cooking stove. You can cook breakfast on the top, simmer the roast in the oven, warm the plates on the top, dry the kid's boots, warm the kitchen (and the whole house), and a host of other things that require heat. They are vastly expensive, take up a great deal of space and are probably more of a status symbol now that more efficient ways of cooking have been invented - at a fraction of the cost. They are made of cast iron and enamelled in a wide range of colours: cream, beige, red, blue, etc. People who have one swear by them, saying that is no other way to cook that turns out such consistently good quality meals.
