I am not surprised to find Semaphore and Morse in S&A books - but what has just struck me re-reading WH is the introduction of "Deaf and Dumb" langusge - as per Cape 17th imprsssioan pg 274 (Chp The Uses of an Uncle )where Nancy and Cpt Flint are comminicating remotely )
Does anyone know *why* Ransome may have introduced this language into S&A books - and how frequent this language was used in his era - and would it have been BSL or Mackinton (sp?)
