In WD, when Jim Brading first meets the Swallows, while they are still total strangers to him, he does ask them for help in mooring the Goblin to the buoy, with no fear of them claiming salvage. This seems to fly in the face of his later warnings about accepting help.

Of course, without their help in mooring, the Goblin was drifting backwards, in immediate danger of causing considerable damage among other moored vessels, so he did not really have that much choice but to take a chance with these strangers. It turned out to be the wise move.
