"Indians are the sole remaining ethnicity one can poke fun at."

I grew up in the 50s listening to the Goon Show (and my sense of humour has never quite recovered).

Sellers and Milligan has a wonderful cross-talk act between two babus: Mr Lalkakar and Mr Bannerjee. The BBC, in an early fit of PC, decided that real Indians would find this offensive and did not make shows with those two in it available for the subcontinent. Uproar! when it turned out that the Indians loved them and couldn't get enough.

It has always bothered me that so many people assume that others are unable to laugh at themselves. Is it because they are personally unable to do so?

AR obviously enjoyed poking fun at himself in his persona as Captain Flint.
