In an English public school some children I know are at, the first year (aged 13-14) is called the Shell, the second year is the Remove and the GCSE year (age 15-16) is the Hundred. Make of that what you will.
When their father was there some thirty plus years ago, he said that the more academically advanced boys skipped the Remove, presumably the Remove was where the less able were removed to for an extra year's instruction before O-levels.
